The only New Year resolution you need

The only New Year resolution you need

As the new year approaches, don’t make the same new year’s resolutions you’ll never stick to.

Wassen, experts in mineral-based food supplements suggest that there’s only one resolution you really need – to look after your own wellbeing first and foremost!

Wellbeing expert, Vicky Malcolm says, “By putting your own health and wellbeing first, all those health-related resolutions, such as losing weight and exercising more, will be more likely to happen naturally.”

Here are five ways to put your wellbeing first this coming year:

  1. Make time for you

Each day make your number one priority scheduling a small amount of ‘me time’. It sounds simple doesn’t it, but when the daily demands of work and family it’s easy to put your own wellbeing to the bottom of the pile. However, by looking after yourself, you will be better equipped to look after everyone else - even if it’s just half an hour for a candlelit bath, reading a book, or doing some stretching. Make sure there is some ‘me time’ planned into your hectic schedule, to ensure this happens Vicky recommends committing to it by putting it in your diary, you will be amazed at how much more in control this makes you feel.

  1. Practise mindfulness

Introduce some simple moments of mindfulness into your new year routine. It doesn’t need to be complicated it could just be going for a 10 minute walk leaving your phone at home, or taking a moment of reflection while boiling the kettle. This will help to give you the best possible mindset to tackle everything else that lies ahead of you.

  1. Go outdoors

Being outside in the fresh air is really good for both our fitness and our mental wellbeing. Head out for a family walk at the weekend, find new places to explore or take up a new hobby such as foraging or just simply appreciate the nature around us.

  1. Weekly food planning

Make time to plan your meals for the week ahead so you know that you are getting a healthy, balanced diet for yourself and your family. Aim for half your plate of food to be vegetables, a quarter to be unprocessed sources of protein and the last quarter to be healthy carbohydrate brown rice or whole grains. Remember that a healthy balanced diet should include at least two portions of fish per week, including one oily[1].
